If you have a personal injury matter and you beneficiary of medicare, there are some complications involved in your case. First the beneficiary or attorney must notify the Benefits Coordination & Recovery Center of the accident that arose the medical treatment. After this notification the BCRC will identify all treatment paid and then will issue a conditional payment letter. At this point, the attorney or beneficiary may dispute the claims that medicare has asserted. Once a settlement is made the attorney or beneficiary must submit the settlement information of the case. This includes the settlement amount, date, attorney’s fees and cost. In response the BCRC will identify final payment amount and calculations of the amount owed. It is then critical to pay medicare as expeditiously as possible due to the possibility of interest be assessed if the debt is not resolved within 60 days.
