Drinking And Driving Ruins Lives

|

Eight people have lost their lives in recent drunk driving accidents. According to officials, the eight victims who died from suspected DUI crashes in San Diego happened in just the last four weeks. Many wonder why these tragedies have been so rampant as of late. There were five defendants charged with DUI murder or manslaughter in the first five months of 2016, according to the San Diego County District Attorney’s office. The California Highway Patrol says it is frustrating that after intense efforts to reduce drinking and driving they still continue to see it happen on roadways across the state.

CHP Officer said organizations such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving, MADD, have made a dramatic difference and do a great job of educating people. Education and awareness that drinking and driving ruins lives is important. CHP also wants people to plan ahead. If you know you are going to drink, have a plan to get home without getting behind the wheel drunk.

The National Transportation Safety Board has proposed lowering the blood alcohol level from .08 to .05. in an effort to reduce the nation’s DUI’s. Others say solutions such as breathalyzers and interlock devices that won’t let you operate your vehicle if you have been drinking might help.
