Driver Charged in Connection With Car Crash

|

A fatal vehicle accident occurred around 8:00 at night in Freeport, Long Island on Wednesday. The accident took place after a driver of a 2001 Buick was seen speeding by police officers. The officers followed the Buick and pulled the vehicle over, but the driver got away. Then, the driver of the Buick failed to stop at a stop sign and drove through an intersection, causing the car to collide with a 2012 Mercedes-Benz. As a result, both vehicles traveled to the front lawn of a home. Tragically, the passenger of the Buick passed away. The driver of the Mercedes has a broken jaw from the accident. The driver of the Buick suffered injuries and is facing several charges.

Running stop signs and red lights is extremely dangerous. Every year, about 700,000 accidents take place at stop signs. Additionally, speeding is a factor that is involved in one out of three fatal vehicle accidents. Speeding often is involved in the failure to stop at stop signs as well, as speeding lengthens the time it takes for a vehicle to come to a complete stop.
