Tractor-Trailer Accident Kills One, Closes Interstate

|

Interstate 495 in Kensington, Maryland was closed for several hours while debris and fuel were cleared after a deadly tractor-trailer accident. The crash occurred on February 19th during the morning rush hour. According to the Maryland State Police, for unknown reasons, the driver of the tractor-trailer crashed into a concrete median. The 47-year-old male driver was ejected during impact and taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries. The interstate was closed in both directions for over two hours while the police conducted an investigation and cleared debris.

Traffic accidents involving tractor-trailers can cause severe damages due to the size of the truck. Commercial trucks can weigh around 80,000 pounds and when traveling at rates of speed around 60 mph, an impact can be devastating. Tractor-trailer accidents could be caused by the same factors of any other type of auto accident. However, reckless driving demonstrated by commercial truck drivers is a common cause. Any individual that operates their vehicle for several hours a day increases their chances of experiencing driver fatigue. Fatigued driving, DUI, speeding, and distracted driving are often to blame for tractor-trailer accidents.
