|

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a Tulsa man was killed in a pedestrian accident as he tried to cross Interstate 44 on foot. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol report the man was hit by a sports utility vehicle around 4:45 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23rd, 2016. The pedestrian was dead at the scene and his name has not been released. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol report the SUV was headed westbound when it struck the man who had stepped into its path. The impact threw the man about 150 feet. The driver of the SUV was not injured. It is unknown if charges will be filed.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 4,735 pedestrians killed in 2010 in the United States. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is working hard to raise awareness of the dangers to pedestrians by their “everyone is a pedestrian” campaign. They hope this decreases the accidental death rate of innocent pedestrians. Many of the pedestrians killed every year are due to the misconduct of drivers.
