Bicycle Accident Kills Five, Injures Four

|

Five people were killed and four others were injured after a motorist struck a group of bicyclists in western Michigan causing the fatal bicycle accident. According to authorities, a 50-year-old western Michigan man hit a group of bicyclists with his pick-up truck shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Cooper Township. The man then fled the scene of the wreck on foot. Police were able to catch and detain him. A witness saw the pick-up truck slam into the group of bicyclists. First responders were alerted and rushed to the scene. The group of adult bicyclists were riding together. Their identities will be released once family members are notified. Five people were tragically killed and four others were treated at nearby hospitals for serious injuries. The truck driver is in custody and faces several charges. Police had received calls from other motorists just minutes before the fatal accident, reporting the same pickup truck was driving erratically. Several agencies were already searching for the pickup truck before the fatal accident occurred.
