Motorcyclist Strikes Mattress, Results in Fatal Crash

|

A fatal motorcycle crash happened when a rider struck a mattress in the roadway in Houston, Texas. On Sunday night at around 8 p.m., a 57-year-old man was operating his motorcycle along westbound Highway 249 when he struck a mattress in the roadway. The motorcyclist attempted to avoid the mattress and was unsuccessful. The impact ejected the man from the bike and suffered significant head trauma. He was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Authorities are investigating the accident and the identity of the victim will be released once next of kin is notified.

Individuals that choose to operate a motorcycle are required to receive an education on how to properly handle the vehicle, as well as the traffic laws pertaining to motorcycle use. Despite the known risks of operating the vehicle, motorcycle accidents occur frequently. It is not uncommon for some motorcyclists to negligently handle their vehicle and cause the accidents. However, due to their smaller size, it is often more common for other motorists to be liable due to distracted driving, DUI, fatigued driving and speeding. To determine who is responsible for your motorcycle crash, it is important to consult an experienced personal injury lawyer.
