Deceased Victim's Family Forgives Distracted Driver

|

A man escaped jail time after being found guilty of distracted driving that caused a fatal accident. Over the summer, Travis Fox was eating a sandwich and operating a GPS device while driving, causing him to take his eyes off the roadway. He caused a multi-vehicle accident in Michigan that injured several individuals and claimed the life of a 13-year-old boy. The victim’s family appeared in court telling Fox that they forgave him and that they know he is hurting. The judge sentenced Fox to 18 months of probation and community service.

Reckless driving has been the cause of thousands of traffic accidents and one example that has increased in recent years is that of distracted driving. Many people believe that drivers have become more distracted due to the increase in technological advances. Cell phones, GPS devices, MP3 players, and laptop computers have made communication and multitasking easier than ever before. However, these devices have also caused distractions for drivers that have led to many auto accidents. Many states have implemented laws restricting the use of any handheld devices while operating a vehicle. However, drivers disobey several traffic laws on a regular basis and those individuals should be held responsible for their reckless decisions. If you have suffered damages due to a distracted driver, it is imperative to consult an experienced auto accident attorney.
