Workplace Accident Kills Tornado Survivor

|

A workplace accident on Tuesday night claimed the life of a man who survived a tornado. The accident happened in Belvidere, Illinois on Tuesday night when a 36-year-old man was operating a forklift and it overturned on top of him. He was crushed by the forklift and emergency crews transported him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Tragically, the worker and his family had experienced an EF-4 tornado last April that claimed all of their belongings as well as their home. The accident is being investigated.

Workplace accidents are the cause of individuals suffering damages and fatalities thousands of times a year. Falls, blunt force trauma, and repetitive injuries are responsible for numerous work-related injuries. There are certain occupations that are considered dangerous such as police officers, firefighters, and construction workers. While individuals that have careers in these positions are more likely to be involved in a work-related accident, anyone can suffer an injury at their place of employment. Fortunately, in Missouri, all companies that have five or more workers must have worker’s compensation insurance. The worker’s compensation insurance benefits offer medical coverage and replacement of lost wages. However, the wages are only replaced at a rate of 66.6% of the worker’s average weekly wage.

To receive the maximum compensation, you should contact the St. Louis worker’s compensation attorneys at Meyerkord & Kurth.
