Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Accident

|

On Sunday night, a pedestrian accident claimed the life of a man in Montgomery County, Maryland. Authorities reported that a man wearing dark clothing attempted to cross Interstate 270 when he was struck by a Subaru Outback. The woman driving the Subaru was not intoxicated and police do not believe she will be charged for the accident. Tragically, the man was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident.

Pedestrian accidents often result in serious injuries and fatalities due to the pedestrian being defenseless against a collision with a motor vehicle. Every year there are close to 5,000 pedestrians killed in accidents in which most are preventable. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention encourage all pedestrians to follow safety precautions such as wearing reflective clothing, walking on sidewalks and crosswalks, and travel in well-lit areas. All pedestrians and bicyclists are at-risk of being injured or killed in a pedestrian accident regardless of their precautions due to the reckless actions of motorists. Distracted driving, fatigued driving, and driving under the influence cause thousands of pedestrian accidents and those drivers should be held responsible by contacting an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.
