North St. Louis County Auto Accident Kills Teen

|

A teen driver is dead after a fatal auto accident occurred on Sunday afternoon in North St. Louis County. According to authorities, a single-vehicle accident happened at approximately 3:15 p.m. The vehicle contained five teenagers ranging in age from 15-years-old to 19-years-old. The initial investigation indicates that the driver, a 17-year-old driver was operating a vehicle when he lost control near the intersection of New Jamestown Road and Krenski. The driver was killed in the crash and the four passengers were taken to the hospital for injuries sustained. Police believe the driver was speeding at the time of the crash.

Auto accidents are one of the leading causes of death amongst drivers ages 16 to 19. Many experts believe their inexperience is to blame and raising the legal age for obtaining a driver’s license from 16 has been discussed. However, regardless of the age, when an individual begins driving they will lack experience. Car accidents involving teen drivers are often caused by speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, and distracted driving. While teen driving accidents occur more frequently than accidents involving other ages, drivers of all ages cause thousands of preventable accidents annually.
