Iowa Pedestrian Killed in Hit and Run Accident

An Iowa man has died this week after a fatal pedestrian accident last week. Last Wednesday, the man was struck by a vehicle while crossing SW 9th near Christ the King Catholic Church. The driver fled the scene, leaving the man unconscious in the roadway. The victim was rushed to the hospital where he spent the next five days. He died Tuesday morning, April 12. The driver can now be charged which is a felony for failing to render aid in a fatality. The father of three will be remembered by friends and family at Laurel Hill Cemetery this week.

Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration state that there are 13 pedestrians deaths in vehicle crashes each day, or one pedestrian every 107 minutes. The NHTSA also reports that one in five pedestrians killed were killed in hit-and-run motor vehicle crashes. St. Louis drivers are required to remain at the scene of an accident and failure to do so is punishable as a crime.
