Dog Treats Recalled Due to Mold

|

Food product recalls have seemed to plague our nation due to various contaminations, and unfortunately, pets are also at risk. A recall has been issued for apple dog treats manufactured by The Nutro Company due to containing “potential” mold. The company says that the recall, which was issued at the beginning of the week, is voluntary and there have not been any illnesses currently reported. The dog treats are sold at many retail stores including PetSmart which offered a statement encouraging all consumers to discontinue use of the treats immediately and return them to their stores for a full refund. The product is sold in 4 oz. packages containing the numbers 502 at the beginning of the product code.

As we near the end of 2015, it has been a year full of product recalls. Vehicles, baby products, electronics, pet items, and food have been recalled several times throughout the year due to being defective, dangerous, or contaminated. Tragically, many of these recalls are not issued until after a consumer suffered an illness, injury, property damage, or death. Product liability laws hold manufacturers responsible for producing safe items that are will not harm a consumer. However, many companies are more concerned with increasing their profits than producing a quality product that is free from harm.
