Semi-Truck Causes Crash Injuring Two Teens

|

On Thursday, a serious auto accident involving two vehicles and a semi-truck sent two teenagers to the hospital in serious condition. A 16-year-old male driver was traveling home after school in Brown County, Illinois, near Mt. Sterling with his 12-year-old sister as a passenger. As the boy headed east on U.S. 24 he slowed down attempting to make a turn, a semi-truck collided with the rear of his vehicle pushing it into oncoming traffic. The car collided with a pickup truck traveling west causing horrific damages to the vehicle. Emergency crews responded to the crash and both teens were rushed to an area hospital with serious injuries. Authorities gave the driver of the semi-truck citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Traffic accidents involving semi-trucks, unfortunately, occur too frequently. Occupational drivers often have high demands of traveling for extended distances and lengths of time which can be very dangerous. Fatigued driving, distracted driving, and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol are often the main causes of semi-truck accidents. Despite the fact that there are laws in place to prevent truck drivers from traveling for more than a specific set of hours, drivers continue to push the limit on what is considered safe and responsible driving causing hundreds of accidents each year.
