A Denver school bus driver was killed, and several other passengers were hurt in a bus accident on Sunday. According to Denver police, the bus was picking up a high school football team at the Denver International Airport when the school bus veered off a roadway and crashed into a concrete pillar. Police say at approximately 4:08 p.m. on Sunday, the bus driver picked up 28 members of the Legacy High School football team, as well as family members, from the airport. For an unknown reason, police say the driver circled back around the airport and then veered off a road and crashed into a concrete pillar. Police say the driver was dead at the scene and several others were taken to nearby hospitals. Five of the passengers suffered life-threatening injuries that ranged from critical to fair condition.

The school bus accident is still under investigation and police are waiting to release the identity of those injured in the accident, including the school bus driver. Authorities say two other school buses were transporting the team that had returned from California. An airport spokeswoman said uninjured passengers were taken to another area in the airport and picked up by parents.
