Three people died Thursday night in two separate
traffic accidents in the Greater St. Louis area. The first accident occurred near O'Fallon
Park on Interstate 70 in north St. Louis at approximately 10:30 p.m. According
to the St. Louis Police Department, a GMC Yukon struck a center concrete
median and overturned as it was attempting to change lanes at Adelaide.
As the Yukon overturned on the interstate, two people were ejected, and
the vehicle struck a Ford Taurus. A woman ejected from the Yukon died
at the scene of the accident and the other, a man, died later at the hospital,
according to officials. Officials report a third passenger in the back
seat of the Yukon listed in serious condition at the hospital. No passengers
in the Ford Taurus were hurt in the accident. Emergency crews closed the
interstate for nearly four hours while officials worked the scene.
The other fatal accident occurred on St. Charles Rock Road near Route 141
in Bridgeton. Police say a motorcycle was struck by a pickup truck several
hours later around 6 a.m. The motorcyclist died from injuries caused by
the crash. Police had the westbound lanes of St. Charles Rock Road closed
for some time. No other details of the accident have been released.
