car crash on Meadows Ave. in East Peoria took a woman’s life on Wednesday.
The coroner of Peoria announced Wednesday evening at OSF Saint Francis
Medical Center that Norene McMahon, 48 of Washington, was deceased. The
second driver has been hospitalized as a result, and their condition is
not known at this time. An autopsy is scheduled for today to determine
what injury resulted in McMahon's death.
Residents grow increasingly concerned with the increase in fatal vehicle
crashes on Meadows Ave. Is it considered a dangerous road? Some definitions
of dangerous roads: uncompromising curves, narrow lanes, the inability
to see far in front of you. Did you know that just adding one foot to
a lane can decrease accidents by 12%? Further widening of a lane by 2-4
feet can further reduce accidents by an impressive 23-40%. Combine that
with an increase in shoulder width and that percentage will further increase.
Are cities looking at these statistics when building roadways?
