Motorcycle Accident Occurs After Colliding With Tractor-Trailer

|

A motorcycle accident involving a tractor-trailer took place on Monday around 3:37 a.m. in West Knoxville on Interstate 40. Tragically, the two people who were riding on the motorcycle both passed away due to the accident. The man of the tractor-trailer did not suffer injuries during the accident.

Since the accident is still being investigated, it is undetermined what caused it. While motorcycle riders do not have the same protection of passengers in cars, most ride defensively, as they want to avoid being involved in an accident. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, it was estimated by the federal government that the number of deaths while riding motorcycles was at least 27% higher than that of cars in 2014. Meanwhile, tractor trailers can also be dangerous. For example, the IIHS also reported that while coming to a stop, tractor-trailers that are loaded take 20-40% further than cars.
