Midea dehumidifiers have been recalled due to hazardous defects that have already caused $4.8 million in property damage. The company reports that the dehumidifiers can cause serious fire and burn hazards by overheating, smoking and catching fire. There have been around 3.4 million units recalled under various brand names. The company has received 38 reports of property damage and luckily, no injuries have been reported. Midea is urging consumers to turn off units immediately and unplug them. These products were sold at Menards, Lowes, PC Richard, and nationwide stores between January 2003 through December 2013. They are offering a partial refund for consumers whose dehumidifiers were manufactured before October 1, 2008. They are offering replacements for the units made prior to the 2008 date.
