Two students from St. Paul Lutheran School tragically drowned during a school-sponsored trip to Table Rock Lake this past Tuesday. Witnesses say the two boys, both 17-years-old, tried to swim from their pontoon boat to the shore. The boat was near Battleship Point, and the boys attempted to swim about 100 yards to a popular cliff jumping spot. Both boys disappeared in the water before reaching the shore. Authorities received a distress call around 12:30 p.m. after the boys never resurfaced. Emergency responders arrived at the scene near the Army Corps Recreation Area, off Leavitt Lane. According to the Highway Patrol Marine Division, divers were unable to recover the bodies of the two male students until later Tuesday evening. The boys were both on a senior trip outing sponsored by St. Paul Lutheran School, near Concordia.
