Patrol Car Collides with Ambulance, Officer Killed

|

A South Jacksonville police officer was killed in an Illinois auto accident when his patrol car collided with an ambulance. The officer was responding to another traffic accident when he attempted to make a U-turn on Route 267 and collided with the ambulance at around 9 p.m. The officer was transported to a hospital in Springfield and tragically he died from his injuries. Two paramedics in the ambulance also suffered injuries and were taken to a hospital.

No individual is spared from being involved in an auto accident. All driver’s must handle their vehicles responsibly in order to avoid an accident. Each year thousands of auto accidents result in injuries and death and many of these accidents are preventable. Fatal auto accidents claim the lives of nearly 37,000 individuals every year, according to the Association for Safe International Road Travel. That number of fatalities is equivalent to a small U.S. city. Unfortunately, reckless driving is the cause of most auto accidents and those drivers could face criminal consequences and should also be held financially accountable.
