Man Charged with DUI on Riding Lawn Mower

|

An unusual case of drunk-driving occurred in Central Missouri this week. A Fulton man has been arrested for driving his lawn mower recklessly while intoxicated. The 44-year-old man has a record of drunk-driving and now faces these new charges after Tuesday’s incident. The Fulton man was driving while intoxicated, tampering with evidence, resisting arrest and assault on a law enforcement officer. Fulton officers had to fight with the man during the arrest however no one was injured. He is being held at Callaway County Jail on a $15,000 cash-only bond.

According to the Missouri Traffic Law, a lawnmower, tractor, golf cart, and dirt bike are all considered motor vehicles when operated on a public highway. That means those driving most motor vehicles on public highways while intoxicated are breaking the law and can be charged with a DUI. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it is estimated that 32% of fatal vehicular crashes involve an intoxicated driver or pedestrian.
