Boy Killed in East St. Louis Hit and Run Accident

|

An East St. Louis boy was killed in a hit and run accident near his home on Thursday. An 11-year-old boy was attempting to cross State Street near 37th when he was struck by a vehicle at approximately 6:37 a.m. The driver fled the scene of the accident and several other vehicles drove by the boy while he laid injured in the street. Finally, a motorist stopped traffic and called 911 for assistance. Tragically, after the boy was transported to the hospital he died from his injuries. The accident occurred near his home and his family are obviously heartbroken. They are urging for the driver to come forward and face the consequences. The child was a student at Gordon Bush Elementary School. CrimeStoppers is offering a $5,000 award for any information that would lead to an arrest.

Hit and run accidents are responsible for thousands of injuries, deaths, and property damage every year. All drivers involved in an auto accident are required by law to remain at the scene of the crash to provide personal and insurance information to the others involved or the authorities. Pedestrian accidents are one of the most common forms of hit and run accidents due to the driver’s vehicle suffering less damage opposed to a collision with another vehicle.
