Austin Pedestrian Accident Kills Man

|

Early Friday morning, a man was killed in a pedestrian accident in Austin, Texas. The Austin Police confirmed that around 5 a.m., a man was walking along the northbound service road of Interstate 35 when he was struck by a car near 12th street. The deceased victim is believed to be in his 70s and his identity has not yet been released. The driver of the vehicle stopped and is cooperating with the investigation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimate that approximately 76,000 individuals are injured and an additional 5,000 people are killed every year in pedestrian accidents. Pedestrians are the most vulnerable type of traveler due to their lack of visible presence to drivers. If you are a pedestrian, you should always walk on sidewalks and use crosswalks, wear reflective clothing, and walk in well-lit areas. However, even a pedestrian that follows every possible safety precaution may still be injured or killed in a pedestrian accident due to the negligence of the motorist. Distracted driving, DUI, and fatigued driving often cause pedestrian accidents and are all examples of negligence.
