Study Reveals The Dangers Of Amusement Rides

|

According to a recent study from 1990 to 2010, 92,885 children under the age of 18 were treated for injuries sustained in amusement park type incidents. These events include everything from carousels to roller coaster accidents. The study showed that more than 70% of these injuries occurred during the summer months. This an average of 4,423 injuries each year. The injuries ranged from severe to minor, noting only a very small percentage of injuries were severe. Bigger rides were not the only attractions that caused problems, noting even mall rides could be dangerous. The study suggests that an increase in safety regulations could decrease the number of injuries. The study suggests that parents' involvement can reduce the risk of injury by following certain guidelines such as following all posted height, age, and weight restrictions; follow any special seating order and loading instructions; using safety equipment; keeping children’s hands and feet inside the ride at all times. According to the study, this is the first in-depth look at the national rate of child emergency room visits for injuries involving amusement rides in the United States.
