A tragic auto accident has claimed the life of the actor known for his role as Chekov in the new Star Trek films, according to the Associated Press. The 27-year-old Russian immigrant was found dead at his San Fernando Valley home on Sunday, June 19. According to TMZ, the actor was missing from his early morning rehearsal. His friends went to his home and found the actor pinned between his mailbox and his car at the end of a steep driveway. Witnesses say the car was still running and in neutral. According to the Los Angles Police Department, the victim was crushed by his car around 1:10 a.m. Police suspect the victim was on his way to rehearsal when he momentarily exited his car, and it rolled back down a steep driveway, pinning him against his security fence and brick mailbox. Friends then went to his house to check on him and discovered his body. The LAPD does not suspect foul play.

The actor was born in 1989 and left Russia for the United States during infancy. His first role was in 2000, appearing in E.R. He then acted in numerous television shows over the following years. He became a star after his role in the film Alpha Dog. His most well-known role was Chekov in J.J. Abram’s Star Trek. He also appeared in films such as Terminator Salvation, Odd Thomas, and The Smurfs
