IL DUI Accident Kills Pregnant Woman

On Christmas Eve, a pregnant woman was killed in a DUI accident in the Chicago neighborhood of North Lawndale. According to police, 26-year-old Karla Y. Leanos was attempting to cross West Ogden when she was struck by a vehicle at approximately 9:50 p.m. That vehicle is believed to be a Chrysler, that was driven by 22-year-old Silvestre Garcia. Garcia struck Leanos and fled the scene of the accident. Leanos was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. Physicians delivered her baby boy prematurely, who is listed in stable condition. Authorities were able to locate and apprehend Garcia and have charged him with DUI and other related charges. He is being held on $750,000 bond.
