Fifth DWI for St. Louis County Driver

A south St. Louis County resident has been charged with his fifth DWI charge. According to court documents, 55-year-old Joseph J. Schaefer was operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol on August 25th. Police stopped Schaefer near Gravois Road and Lakewood Avenue, at which time he failed several field sobriety tests and then admitted to being intoxicated. His blood alcohol level was over twice the legal limit at .226%. This is the fifth time Schaefer has been charged with drunk driving since 1990, all of which he pleaded guilty. His bond has been set at $100,000 cash only.
