Fatigued Driving Possible Cause of Deadly Bus Accident

|

On Tuesday morning, a Greyhound bus crashed in San Jose, California. According to the California Highway Patrol, the bus was traveling northbound on Highway 101 when it crashed through safety barrels, overturned onto its side, and came to rest on a concrete median. The crash occurred at around 6:40 a.m. and authorities confirmed that two women were killed in the accident and, at least, eight other passengers were taken to hospitals for injuries sustained. There were approximately 20 passengers onboard the bus traveling from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Investigators believe that fatigued driving is a factor in the crash, and witnesses reported that the driver was seen nodding off just prior to the accident. The National Transportation Safety Board, along with the CHP, is investigating the accident.

Bus accidents can have similar circumstances compared to any other type of auto accident. However, a bus is capable of transporting a larger number of passengers which could lead to more injuries or fatalities per crash. As in all auto accidents, negligence is typically to blame and could lead to potential compensation for the victims. In the event of a bus accident, the driver, bus manufacturer, or bus company could be held liable for the accident and should be held responsible for the harm they caused victims. If you have been injured or lost a loved one in a bus accident, consulting a bus accident lawyer is crucial to receive the investigation needed to proceed with a potential case.
