Tractor-Trailer Accident Spills Lumber Onto Highway

|

A tractor-trailer accident closed the highway after lumber spilled out of the trailer on Sunday. According to authorities, the accident happened just after 9:30 p.m. when the tractor-trailer was transported a large load of lumber on State Route 37 in Alexandria, New York. The truck collided with an SUV causing the truck to overturn. The load of lumber then spilled out of the truck onto the roadway forcing authorities to close the highway between County Route 192 and Number 6 Road. The truck driver refused treatment for the minor injuries he suffered, and the male driver and a female passenger in the SUV were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. It is unknown what led to the collision and who was responsible.

Drivers of commercial vehicles have a large responsibility to operate a massive vehicle. Commercial trucks not only weigh up to 80,000 pounds but also are several feet in length. A collision with a tractor-trailer can be devastating and cause individuals to suffer serious injuries and fatalities. Driving under the influence, distracted driving, speeding, and fatigued driving are the most common forms of reckless driving that contribute to tractor-trailer accidents. However, issues with the truck could also cause an accident.
