Chicago Work Accident Kills Elderly Man

|

A Monday morning workplace accident claimed the life of a 70-year-old man in Chicago. The man was working at the Napuck Salvage plant on Chicago’s South Side when he became trapped in a piece of machinery at approximately 9:45 a.m. According to authorities, his arm became trapped in a conveyor belt severing it. After being transported to the hospital, he died less than an hour after the accident. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the fatal incident.

Have you or someone you know suffered a work-related injury? Workplace accidents happen thousands of times a year and are often common for individuals that work in occupations of construction, as a police officer, or firefighter. While these professions are deemed dangerous, every individual is at risk of suffering of work related injury. In Missouri, employers that have five or more workers are required to carry worker's compensation insurance. The worker's compensation benefits provided medical coverage and wage replacement for the injured worker. However, the wages replaced are only at a rate of 66.6% of that individual's average weekly wage. Why suffer more damages for an accident in which you were not liable?
