IL Tractor-Trailer Accident Kills Woman

|

The Illinois State Police are investigating an auto accident that involved a car and a tractor-trailer. The accident happened near Springfield, Illinois, approximately 98 miles northeast of St. Louis, at around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. The accident happened on Interstate 72 when an unidentified 69-year-old female driver merged onto I-72 from Veterans Parkway. According to police, the driver then sharply turned directly into the path of a tractor-trailer. The woman was transported by ambulance to the hospital where she was pronounced dead, and the driver of the semi-truck was also transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The Illinois State Police are continuing to investigate the crash to determine the cause.

Car accidents are one of the leading causes of death in the world, and a vast majority of these accidents are preventable. Tractor-trailer accidents typically result in serious injuries and fatalities due to their size. While some tractor-trailer accidents may be caused by the driver of the passenger vehicle, several truck drivers are found responsible for causing accidents every year. Rules and regulations restrict truck drivers from operating their vehicle for more than a specific amount of hours a week in order to prevent fatigued driving. However, some truck drivers and trucking companies disobey these laws to increase their profit. If a fatigued driver is to blame for your accident, they should be held accountable for their actions by consulting an experienced St. Louis auto accident attorney.
