As more individuals grow concerned with the environment, several people are choosing to walk or bicycle as a method of transportation. Pedestrian accidents claim the lives of thousands of individuals every year. In fact, there were 4,735 pedestrians killed in accidents with motor vehicles in 2013, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. An additional 66,000 pedestrians were injured averaging a pedestrian injury occurring every eight minutes. All pedestrians are encouraged to follow safety procedures to avoid an accident such as walking in well-lit areas, wearing reflective gear, and walking on sidewalks and crosswalks. However, most pedestrian accidents are caused by the negligence of a motorist.
