Car Collides With Tractor-Trailer on I-64

The Illinois State Police are investigating a fatal car accident that happened Tuesday morning. The accident happened in Clinton County, Illinois when a car hit a disabled tractor-trailer that was parked on the should of the right lane on eastbound Interstate 64. The car was a 2015 Toyota Corolla driven by a 44-year-old Mount Vernon man. According to the police, the Corolla swerved onto the right shoulder and crashed into the back of the tractor-trailer. The Corolla was then struck by a 2016 Mazda CX-5 and the impact ejected the Corolla’s passenger, a 36-year-old female, from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, and the driver was transported by medical helicopter to the hospital. The driver of the Mazda, a 72-year-old man, and the passenger, a 68-year-old female, were also injured in the accident and were transported to a local hospital. The tractor-trailer driver was uninjured. The cause of the accident is unknown as well as the current condition of the injured individuals. The accident is under investigation.
