Woman Injured in Joplin Pedestrian Accident

|

A pedestrian accident in Joplin, Missouri injured a woman on Thursday. According to the Joplin Police, 68-year-old Suzanne Steinbeck was struck by a car in the Sam’s Club parking lot at around 3:37 p.m. Steinbeck was hit by the vehicle after she had returned her cart in a corral in the parking lot. She was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of injuries she sustained to her should and arm. The vehicle was driven by 78-year-old Harmon R. Goldman, and police did not indicate if he would receive any citations. The accident is under investigation.

Pedestrian accidents claim the lives of individuals every day and injure many more. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 4,735 pedestrians were killed in accidents involving vehicles in 2013, and another 76,000 were injured. There are several safety precautions that pedestrians can follow to prevent an accident from occurring such as wearing reflective clothing, traveling in well-lit areas, and utilizing sidewalks and crosswalks when available. However, these safety precautions do not prevent most accidents because they are caused by negligent and reckless driving. Distracted driving, inattentive driving, and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol cause a majority of pedestrian accidents. Contacting an experienced St. Louis pedestrian accident lawyer can help hold those drivers responsible for victim’s damages.
