Pedestrian Struck By Greyhound Bus

|

A man was critically injured in a pedestrian accident when he was struck by a Greyhound bus in Washington, D.C. According to authorities, at around 1:10 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, a man attempted to cross 7th Street, and the bus was making a left turn when the bus hit the pedestrian. As the bus turned onto K Street, the man was hit by the side of the bus, dragging him underneath the vehicle, and it then came to rest on top of the man. The pedestrian was freed from the bus by emergency crews after approximately 20 minutes. He was transported to the hospital for critical injuries and authorities are continuing to investigate the accident.

All individuals that travel on foot or bicycle are classified as pedestrians. Due to their small size in comparison to motor vehicles, they can be difficult to see resulting in a pedestrian accident. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention encourage all pedestrians to follow safety precautions to avoid an accident; however, the majority of pedestrian accidents are caused by the negligence of drivers. Pedestrians involved in accidents with vehicles often result in serious injuries and fatalities. In 2013, 4,735 individuals were killed in pedestrian accidents, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
