Chipotle Closes 43 Locations Due to E Coli

Chipotle Closes 43 Locations Due to E Coli
|

Chipotle has temporarily closed several of their restaurant locations due to an E. Coli outbreak. The restaurants are located in Washington and Oregon, and 21 cases have been reported. Fortunately, no deaths have yet to be reported but eight individuals have been hospitalized. Chipotle has not determined the source of the contamination, but will not reopen the locations until the investigation is complete.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Escherichia coli, more commonly known as E. coli, can cause an infection with symptoms including cramping, diarrhea, and vomiting. E. coli exposure is from contact with human or animal feces. One common way E. coli is passed is when workers do not wash their hands prior to handling food for consumers.

Most people know that an individual injured by a slip and fall or other accident on another party’s property could be grounds for a personal injury case. One type of premises liability case that is often overlooked is that of food poisoning. In the event that an illness was caused by the negligence of the restaurant, those affected could have grounds to file a case.
