30 People Hurt in Iowa Pile Up

|

On Interstate 80 in eastern Iowa, over 30 people were injured in a chain-reaction crash. In addition, the beginning of the crash happened Friday afternoon and involved six vehicles near Williamsburg. Likewise, after the first set of accidents occurred, a semi struck some of the stalled cars that then created a chain reaction crash.

Witnesses state that the semi driver did not even apply his brakes what so ever before setting off the chain reaction crash. As a consequence, the semi burst into flames, and the driver was knocked unconscious. People around the accident scene pulled the semi driver out of his burning vehicle through a roof top window. After the driver had been pulled out of his vehicle, he regained consciousness. Diesel fuel from the crashed semi spilled all over the road and set off other fires to the other crashed vehicles.

One of the vehicles, which caught fire, was a tour bus. Luckily all occupants exited the bus before it fire started. All in all, two vehicles, two semi trucks, and the tour bus were destroyed by fire damage, and everyone made it out alive before the blazes began. All injured motorists were rushed to nearby hospitals, and one person was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospital. It’s a miracle no one was killed in this large and potentially fatal crash.
