Wegmans stores recall spinach due to contamination scare

|

Wegmans Food Markets have recalled frozen bags of spinach due to the potential of Listeria contamination. In addition, the recall affects frozen 12- ounce bags of a product from their organic line called, Wegmans Organic Food You Feel Good About Just Picked Spinach. Likewise, the recall affects best used by dates from January 26, 2017 and February 2, 2017. Wegmans food supplier, Twin City Foods have notified the store that the packages may have come in contact with Listeria monocytogenes, which is a strain of bacteria that can cause a potentially fatal strain of Listeriosis.

The symptoms of Listeria poisoning include: nausea, fever, muscle aches, and diarrhea. Listeria poisoning is especially deadly in infants, older adults, and those with compromised immune systems. This spinach recall is the second in a week for Wegmans. Last week the store recalled walnuts due to a salmonella scare.
