Teen Killed in Crosswalk

|

A high school student in California was killed on Thursday evening when she was hit and killed by a vehicle. As the 15-year-old girl attempted to walk in the crosswalk outside of the Santa Ynez school, she was struck by a minivan. The accident occurred around 6:55 p.m. when the student was leaving a Future Farmers of America meeting held at the school. The driver, an 83-year-old woman, did not yield at the designated crosswalk. Authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol to be a factor in the accident.

Pedestrian accidents claim a life every two hours and injure an individual every seven minutes, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Pedestrians are encouraged to take safety precautions such as using crosswalks, wearing reflective clothing, and using sidewalks when available. However, using every safety precaution does not guarantee that you will not be involved in an accident due to the fact that drivers are typically responsible. If you have been injured in a pedestrian accident, contacting an accident attorney can help assist in recovering compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
