St. Patrick's Day cookies recalled due to undeclared food allergen

|

Food allergies are no laughing matter, and can cause devastating effects in anyone that unknowingly consumes a product with something they are allergic to. In addition, Giant Eagle brand seasonal cookies shaped with leprechauns and shamrocks have recalled certain lots of their cookies due to undeclared milk allergens. The cookies that were affected were made in various holiday themed shapes, and were sold in a pack decorated with sprinkles or icing. The following lots of cookies affected in the recall are:

  • 7799390046
  • 3797300199
  • 1797210298
  • 8968580499
  • 6974880499

The cookies were sold at markets throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, and West Virginia. There have been consumers who reported illnesses from eating the cookies, and thus prompted the recall. People with milk allergies or a severe dairy allergy can sometimes suffer serious, life-threatening allergic reactions. Symptoms can include: hives, itching, shortness of breath, wheezing, loss of consciousness, and death.
