Sedalia, MO teacher killed in tractor-trailer accident

|

Sadly Monday morning in Sedalia, Missouri a beloved high school teacher was killed in a motor vehicle accident. Likewise, 48-year-old, Steven Gooch was headed south on U.S 65 Hwy when his vehicle was hit by a semi, which was headed in the same direction. Following the crash, Gooch's vehicle slid sideways into oncoming traffic, and was struck by a northbound truck. Tragically, Gooch died from his injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the truck, which struck Gooch's vehicle after the semi crash, suffered only minor injures.

The 28-year-old driver of the semi said he experienced mechanical problems, and as a result hit the driver's side door of Gooch's vehicle. Currently, police believe no one is at fault for the tragic accident, yet an investigation is pending. Gooch taught social studies at the Smith-Cotton High School in Sedalia for over 18 years. After everyone in the school found out about the tragic news, the halls of the building fell silent with disbelief and shock.
