Explosion Injures Workers

|

An explosion Saturday afternoon has injured two workers in St. Louis. The incident occurred at a pallet company at approximately 12 p.m. Authorities believe that natural gas was built up in a room that was used for warm sterilization of the pallets and when the workers walked into the room, the explosion happened. The workers sustained injuries that were not burns and were transported in stable condition to the hospital.

Companies that employ five or more workers, and most construction companies, are required to carry workers' compensation insurance in the state of Missouri. The insurance is beneficial considering it is a no-fault insurance meaning the accident is covered as long as the employee did not purposely cause the accident. The benefits of workers' compensation insurance include providing compensation for medical treatment and wages lost while off work. Unfortunately, the lost wages benefits are provided at a rate of 66.6% of the workers' average weekly wage. The deficit of the wages typically leaves workers' struggling financially making it important to contact a workers' compensation attorney. An attorney can file a case to seek compensation to recover the difference in lost wages.
