Semi Crash in Iowa Kills Dozens of Hogs

|

Although semi crashes are often fatal, it could’ve been worse in Rockwell, Iowa when an accident left several dozen hogs dead. In addition, the semi crash took place on I-5 when a truck was hauling a log of the swine, and flipped over at the intersection of Mallard and 140th Street in Cerro Gordo County. All in all, 68 hogs were killed in the Iowa semi crash. Witnesses and first responders describe the scene as dramatic to say the least. Luckily some hogs survived the semi crash, yet many did not.

It seems that this is not the first time a semi crash has killed hogs that were being hauled. Responders say that although it is difficult to deal with, it could always be much worse, and it is fortunate that other vehicles were not involved in the semi accident. The hogs belonged to The Machhoff’s, which is one of the largest pork production sites in North America, and are based out of Illinois. Currently the cause of the semi accident is pending following an investigation. The driver of the semi was Jon Gardner, and was not injured in the semi crash. Gardner was issued a citation for failure to maintain control.
