Worker Hit by Vehicle in Construction Zone

|

One of the most dangerous occupations in the country is a construction worker. On Monday evening, a construction worker was injured after she was struck by a vehicle shortly after 6 p.m. A 31-year-old female, Jennifer Huels, was operating the ground service machinery for an on-ramp to Interstate 64 at the time of the accident. According to Illinois State Police, the accident happened in Washington County, Illinois near Illinois 177. The vehicle that struck Huels was operated by 60-year-old Henry Ford from Belleville. Huels sustained serious injuries and was transported to St. Louis University Hospital by helicopter. State police are continuing to investigate the accident.

Accidents that happen at work may be eligible for a workers’ compensation case if caused by the negligence of another party. In Missouri, most construction companies and employers with five or more employees are required by law to carry workers’ compensation insurance. The insurance provides coverage for medical treatment expenses and reimbursement of lost wages. However, the lost wages are reimbursed at a rate of 66.6% of the worker’s average weekly wage. This can create a financial burden for workers and make it necessary to contact an experienced St. Louis workers’ compensation attorney.
