Semi-Truck Accident Closes I-270

|

The southbound lanes of Interstate 270 were closed early Friday morning after a semi-truck accident. The accident happened around 5:30 a.m. near the Dougherty Ferry Road exit. According to authorities, the tractor-trailer collided with another vehicle causing the truck to jackknife. Fuel was spilled onto the interstate from the truck forcing police to close the roadway. Authorities are continuing to investigate the accident and reported that there were no injuries in the crash.

There are 10,000 auto accidents that involve semi-trucks each year, according to the Missouri Department of Public Safety. Truck accidents often result in serious injury and death. The weight and size of a semi-truck can cause a collision with a passenger vehicle to be devastating. Several tractor-trailer accidents are preventable and due to negligence on their part of the driver or the trucking company. Driver fatigue, distracted driving, speeding, cargo that is not secure, and lack of maintenance on the truck are all factors that can lead to an accident.
