Nursing Home Abuse Caught on Camera

|

The family of a nursing home resident in Minnesota is furious after catching caregivers abusing their loved one. The resident had bruises and cuts on their body that prompted family members to install hidden cameras in the room. A video that had been recorded on June 22 revealed two separate nursing home employees were abusing the resident. The nursing home facility, Saint Therese, was informed of the abuse evidence and immediately conducted an investigation into the incident. Saint Therese officials notified local police and health departments, as well as interviewed several employees, which resulted in the termination of the two employees who committed the abuse. As a result of the incident, St. Therese also dismissed eight other workers for not reporting the abuse or breaking other rules that were also caught on the video. The city attorney believes that once authorities complete their initial investigation, the employees caught abusing a resident will face criminal charges.

Making the difficult decision to place a loved one in the care of strangers is stressful. The safety and well-being of the loved one is a top priority when choosing a facility, and it can be devastating to learn that the facility did not have the same priority. Nursing home neglect and abuse are serious offenses that occur too frequently. Employees of these facilities are often underpaid, overworked and lack proper training. These factors are not an excuse for neglect and abuse, but rather create a hostile environment in which a victim is abused. If your loved one has been abused or neglected in a nursing home facility, it is important to contact an experienced St. Louis nursing home abuse attorney.
