University of Michigan Hospital Sued for Medical Malpractice

|

The University of Michigan Health System has been sued by a woman claiming medical malpractice when she was not treated properly for her injuries due to a cat bite. The lawsuit is filed by 41-year-old Michelle Nurnberg who is representing herself. Nurnberg claims she arrived at the emergency room in May 2013 after being bitten by her sister-in-law's cat. She was attempting to break up a fight with her sister-in-law's cat and a stray cat which led to bites on her arm, wrist, and hand. After some time, she began to develop an infection prompting her to seek medical attention. Nurnberg believes the medical staff did not properly treat the wounds and infections causing the chronic pain she now experiences. She is seeking, at least, $75,000 in compensation for the alleged disabling pain that requires her to be bedridden. The defendants, the University of Michigan Hospital, the University of Michigan Board of Regents and the University of Michigan Health System have not commented on the pending case.
