Garbage Truck Struck Fairview Heights Child

|

On Wednesday afternoon, a 5-year-old boy was riding his bike when he was struck by a garbage truck. The accident happened in Fairview Heights, Illinois when the child was visiting relatives. According to the Fairview Heights Police Department, the boy was struck at around 3:50 p.m. near the 5600 block of East Drive. The unidentified child was transported to Belleville Memorial Hospital and then transferred by helicopter to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. His condition is believed to be stable, but critical, and authorities claim he suffered serious leg injuries. The accident is being investigated and it is unknown if charges will be filed.

Accidents involving children are particularly devastating. Pedestrian accidents injure and kill hundreds of children every year and negligent drivers should be held responsible for their actions. Pedestrians and bicyclists can be difficult for drivers to see requiring them to devote all of their focus and attention to the roadways and their surrounds. Unfortunately, distracted driving, fatigued driving, and operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol cause thousands of preventable pedestrian accidents resulting in life-altering injuries and death. If you or a loved one has been the victim of a pedestrian accident, you may be entitled to compensation for your damages.
