A tragic semi crash that killed six people in Chattanooga, Tennessee in June is now having some details come to light as to what may have caused the horrific accident. Furthermore, semi driver, Benjamin Brewer had been driving for more than 50 hours when his truck hit eight cars on Interstate 75. According to federal rules, state semi drivers can only drive a total off 11 hours in the day before they must take a 10-hour break. Likewise, according to Sgt. Scott Shaver it is well known that semi drivers sometimes falsify drive logs because they more they drive, the more they make.
Driver fatigue is a leading cause of serious crashes. In addition, a person that has been awake for more than 18 hours acts the same way as an intoxicated person would. To make matters worse, at the time of the crash Brewer had crystal meth in his system as well. Police are speculating that Brewer made has had the drug in his system to help him drive a longer distance that day. Now, Brewer is facing multiple charges including vehicular homicide by impairment, reckless aggravated assault, DUI, speeding, and false reports of duty statuses.
